About Varthur & Bellandur Lakes

These are among the city's largest water bodies and have a record of rare waders and ducks in winter. They are also polluted and frothy at times, so go for the birds, not the scenery.

History

Two of the biggest tanks in a chain that once fed the eastern part of the old city. Today they receive treated and untreated sewage and are the subject of continuing clean-up efforts.

Flora

Dense water hyacinth and reeds in places, with scattered trees on the bunds.

Fauna

Fish and a rich insect life that feeds birds. Avoid contact with the water.

Tips
