About Cubbon Park
About 300 acres of lawns, bamboo groves and old trees. Winter flycatchers and warblers pass through the shade trees, and the resident birds are easy to find.
History
Laid out in 1870 and named after Sir Mark Cubbon, who ran the Mysore state for the British. The grounds surround the Seshadri Iyer Memorial Library, the State Archaeological Museum and Attara Kacheri.
Flora
Bamboo stands, rain trees, jacaranda, tabebuia, and a stand of old trees from across the tropics.
Fauna
Squirrels, butterflies, and the occasional mongoose. The park is walled in by the city, so large mammals are absent.
